HTML5 Get's a New Logo

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 12:09 PM

"The lynchpin for all discussions of open web standards, HTML5, has been spruced up with a dedicated logo from its parent organization, the W3C."

I really don't like this logo at all. But I like the buzz it is generating as it's intent was to get the word out about HTML5 and to promote it's use among developers. What are your thoughts on the new logo?

An Apple or Another Piece of Fresh Produce?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 07:00 AM

"WOOLWORTHS insists its new logo is a stylised ''W'' or a piece of fresh produce. Apple thinks it is an apple, and the California-based technology company wants to stop Australia's largest retailer from using it."

A "W" or a piece of fresh "produce?" Um, yea, well the fresh produce certainly looks like what we refer to in orchard country as an apple. I thought the quote from the designer of the logo, Hans Hulsbosch, was rather humorous: "Based on this logic, they would have to take action against every fruit seller" when referring to the Apple complaint. Well Hans, only if other fruit sellers also sold electronics.

QuickTime Logo Updated

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.underconsideration.com/b..._simplicity.php

"Quicktime, Apple's prevalent media technology, is seeing its latest incarnation within a den of Snow Leopards, announced this last Monday at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 2009. As with almost every updated release of the Quicktime, a new icon emerges - in this case it is also accompanied by the addition of an X at the end of the name, probably acknowledging that it will be some time before the blue Q is completely superseded by the new one. In a way, this iteration of the Q-clock is the one that was always meant to be. Finally the count will reach 20 seconds and the arm will tick its way into formal harmony with the Q descender. I'm sure many of us have always wondered why this hadn't happened at the outset."

I remember that very first logo. It stared at me blankly for many weeks as I tried to get Myst working on my 486-DX4 100. I hated Quicktime on Windows back then. Now, I tolerate it. Frankly, it's much better on the Mac, but that's to be expected; Office and MSN Messenger are just a short step away from unbearable on the Mac!

Incidentally, I'm not a huge fan of the new logo. It's a bit generic for my tastes.
