Best Apps for March Madness

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 03:00 AM

"The month of March has become almost synonymous with the frenzy of college basketball fanaticism known as March Madness."

Of course ESPN Sport Center app is the go to app for anything sport related, but for March Madness it is tough to be the NCAA March Madness app. You can watch all the games via WiFi or 3G as well as monitor your March Madness bracket. There are several other options listed but in my book, it's tough to beat these two.

NCAA Offers Streaming March Madness

"If you're looking for an excuse to buy the new iPad 2 next Friday, how about this: The NCAA will offer free online video streaming for its men's basketball national championship tournament on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch via Wi-Fi and 3G."

Several options for the app that is due to come out on March 10th, which will allow you to stream games or give you info on the different channels that are carrying the games. This year they will be broadcast on CBS, TruTV, TNT and TBS so you will have plenty of options for watching what I consider the best sporting event on TV. You can also find more info about the streaming and availability at the NCAA March Madness On Demand site, as well as sign up for email notifications regarding availability.

March Madness 2010 App From CBS

"CBS Interactive today released the 2010 March Madness application ($9.99 app store). Big difference over last year? 3G streaming of games! It is just a shame that the iPad won't be out until April."

You can get the paid app here, for $9.99 USD, but the free "lite" version has highlights and pretty much everything the paid version does except for the live streaming video of the games. I agree it's too bad the iPad won't be available for it, but at least you will be able to use the iPad with MLB At Bat 2010!

CBS Sports to Stream March Madness to iPhones

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 09:00 AM

"CBS and MobilTV announced a grand experiment in WiFi broadcasting this week with the release of March Madness on Demand (link opens iTunes), a $5 application for iPhone and iPod Touch that will theoretically allow users with a good WiFi connection to see live streamed TV broadcasts of the NCAA Basketball Tournament begining March 19th.CBS will stream every game of the tournament up to and including the Finals on April 6th, in addition to providing video highlights on demand. Users without WiFi access will be able to access live audio of games in progress over AT&Ts 3G and Edge networks."

Not a bad idea, I guess, if "your team" is in it or if you're a really big fan of NCAA sports. Me? Not so much. I wish MLB would do something like this, though. I'd definitely pay for it. Anyone looking forward to March Madness, or are you one of those folks that just gets in on the office brackets in the interest of getting along with coworkers?
