iWork Suite and Aperture Now Mac App Store Only

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/04/16/appl...ials-from-site/

"Apple pulled the trial versions of Aperture 3 and productivity suite iWork '09 from its website, according to a report from MacStories. The links that previously contained download instructions now redirect users to the Mac App Store. An Apple support forum post suggests the Aperture trial was pulled a while ago."

Aperture 3 and the iWork Suite (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) in the Mac App Store only, no big shocker I'm sure since that is where all of their software will end up. I do like it that way myself, makes things so much easier especially if you get a new machine and need to reinstall.

Apple Updates the iWork Suite of Products for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 07:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/09/...icant-features/

"If you've been hesitant about purchasing the individual iWork apps for the iPad, perhaps you should now reconsider. Apple just released what can only be called a significant update to each of its iWork apps: Keynote, Numbers and Pages."

The big update (among the many updates to each product) is the exporting capability to MobileMe iDisk or WebDAV services. For Keynote [affiliate link], you can now export presentations using the PowerPoint format, group and ungroup objects and they have also added support for audio in builds when importing Keynote '09 presentations. For Numbers [affiliate link], the highlights are exporting in Excel format (.XLS) and opening CSV files from Mail and other apps. And last but not least, in Pages [affiliate link], you can now display the word count for your document, open .txt files from Mail and import/export Pages '09 tables with image background fills in cells among other things. All in all a great set of updates from Apple, but the exporting to MobileMe/WebDAV sealed the deal for me.

Mariner Calc Instead of Numbers?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 07:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/04/...iner-calc-ipad/

"Most iPad owners in need of a good spreadsheet app automatically turn to Apple's Numbers, which is fair considering it is loaded with all kinds of templates, charts, and tables to spice up those boring spreadsheets. One necessary feature that the app is missing, however, is the ability to export Excel files and not just view them."

Nice to have choices, especially when the program you normally would use doesn't have all the features you expect ie export. Mariner Calc fills the void in a less flashy manner with it's ability to export files wirelessly. The iPad version of the app is available now for $5.99 USD versus the $9.99 USD price of Numbers. There is also an iPhone version for $4.99 USD.
