Create a Photo Collage With Pages

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.maclife.com/article/howt...e_photo_collage

"We all know how easy it is to share photos online with iPhoto or via iCloud's Photo Stream, but what about when you want to get back to the old school and print them? iPhoto offers some great photo printing options and you can even create your own printed photo books, but don't overlook Pages because it also has a few tricks up its sleeve."

Framing a photo collage is a great gift. In fact, we made up some over the last couple weeks leading up to my daughter's graduation as thank you gifts for various people that have helped her in various phases in her life. I just wish I had known about all the tricks in this article and I could have saved myself from buying an app called Turbo Collage. It worked great, but I already have Pages so could have used that instead! Live and learn I guess, right?

Manage Pages in Facebook With This iPhone App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/167684/fac...-u-s-app-store/

"Facebook has launched its official iPhone app for managing Pages. After a slow rollout throughout other parts of the world, Facebook Pages Manager for iPhone is free and available now in the U.S. App Store."

Looks like now you can download this free app from iTunes so they must have fixed whatever was ailing it. Oh, and it's only available for the iPhone for some reason, but at least now you can manage your pages from your iPhone, something the Facebook app wouldn't let you do.

iWork Suite and Aperture Now Mac App Store Only

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.tuaw.com/2012/04/16/appl...ials-from-site/

"Apple pulled the trial versions of Aperture 3 and productivity suite iWork '09 from its website, according to a report from MacStories. The links that previously contained download instructions now redirect users to the Mac App Store. An Apple support forum post suggests the Aperture trial was pulled a while ago."

Aperture 3 and the iWork Suite (Pages, Numbers and Keynote) in the Mac App Store only, no big shocker I'm sure since that is where all of their software will end up. I do like it that way myself, makes things so much easier especially if you get a new machine and need to reinstall.

Apple Updates the iWork Suite of Products for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 07:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2010/09/...icant-features/

"If you've been hesitant about purchasing the individual iWork apps for the iPad, perhaps you should now reconsider. Apple just released what can only be called a significant update to each of its iWork apps: Keynote, Numbers and Pages."

The big update (among the many updates to each product) is the exporting capability to MobileMe iDisk or WebDAV services. For Keynote [affiliate link], you can now export presentations using the PowerPoint format, group and ungroup objects and they have also added support for audio in builds when importing Keynote '09 presentations. For Numbers [affiliate link], the highlights are exporting in Excel format (.XLS) and opening CSV files from Mail and other apps. And last but not least, in Pages [affiliate link], you can now display the word count for your document, open .txt files from Mail and import/export Pages '09 tables with image background fills in cells among other things. All in all a great set of updates from Apple, but the exporting to MobileMe/WebDAV sealed the deal for me.

What Pages for the iPhone Might Look Like

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/ipad-pages-on-iphone-video

"Remember those rumors of iWork coming to iPhone a couple months ago...? We remembered that hackers were able to get the iPad Netflix app running on an iPhone, and their result looks just like the production version later announced at WWDC 2010."

9To5Mac was able to get the iPad version of Pages working on the iPhone. Despite some obvious problems due to the smaller screen, it works pretty well. It at least gives you an idea of what Pages for the iPhone would look like, if Apple were to make it. While I have no use for Pages on my iPhone, I can see how useful it might be in certain situations. This all depends, of course, on Apple porting Pages to the iPhone, which will probably happen eventually. Is anybody excited about the prospect?

Solid Comes to the Mac, at a Discount

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/150...l?lsrc=rss_news

"Solid Documents, makers of PDF and document tools for Windows, has released one of its most popular products for the Mac: Solid PDF to Word."

Solid converts PDF documents into Microsoft Word and Excel formats, but it can also convert them to Pages format, RTF and HTML. All the images, headers, footers, etc are preserved and if there are editable form fields, those are converted to text boxes. This requires Intel Mac running OS X 10.5 or later. The price is normally $75.95 USD for a single user license but the first 500 people to purchase are given a heft 25% discount, which drops the price to $59.95USD. They also have a free trial period, so if this is something that you might be interested, check it out here.
