The Twelve South BookBook iPad Case: Clever and Cool

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Accessories" @ 07:00 AM

This is my review of the Twelve South BookBook, a very creative and clever carrying case for the iPad and iPad 2. Ever wanted to carry your iPad in stealth mode, hiding the fact that you have an expensive tablet computer on you? Then this is the case for you. Available in two colours - Classic Black or Vibrant Red - this case is a leather-bound, hand-distressed, very novel way to protect and carry your iPad or iPad 2. The BookBook can be purchased via the Laptop Thoughts Amazon store for $69.99 USD.

Interested in the skin on the iPad 2? You can get it from DecalGirl [Affiliate].

Waterfield Design's iPad 2 Suede Jacket Reviewed

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Accessories" @ 09:00 AM

To watch in full screen 1080p, please click on the video title and go over to YouTube.

This is my review of the Waterfield Design iPad 2 Suede Jacket. It's a simple product that works exceptionally well - if you're looking for a simple sleeve for your iPad 2, this is an affordable, effective product. The Ultrasuede is extremely soft and will protect your iPad from scratches and scuffs - but of course won't protect it from anything more than that. The pouch on the back is handy for carrying a few iPad accessories, and with prices starting at $19, it's an affordable option. If you're looking for a simple, lightweight way to protect your iPad v1 or iPad v2 - with or without a Smart Cover - I highly recommend the iPad 2 Suede Jacket.

DecalGirl and GelaSkins: Different Levels of iPad Protection

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Talk" @ 08:00 AM

Remember that awesome skin above that I posted about a month or so ago? Well, I decided to swap the iPad 2 32 GB for a 64 GB model - my local Apple Store made it incredibly easy for me, allowing me to keep the 32 GB iPad until the 64 GB models came back into stock (which was an extra two weeks). Even though Apple email support can sometimes be downright creepy, I've had mostly good experiences inside the Apple store. Back to the skin: I removed the Wolverine skin (which came from GelaSkins) and left it for a few hours, hoping it would restore some of it's original form. Read more...

Today is World Backup Day

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home News" @ 04:30 PM

http://notebooks.com/2011/03/31/wor...es-and-storage/

"Backing up your computer is important enough that you shouldn't need a day dedicated to it, or a collection of deals on online backup services and hard drives, but that is exactly what today is. March 31 is World Backup Day 2011, which should serve as a reminder to backup your computer, smartphone, iPad and even the hard copy pictures and documents you have around the house."

I'm not entirely sure who decided today was World Backup Day - oh, looks like a few people from Reddit - but it's a great idea! People simply don't pay enough attention to the importance of backing up their data. Notebooks.com has a great collection of resources for the tools and services required for having a solid backup plan. Well worth the read!

I'm personally using Crashplan for my off-site backups now - what with Mozy jacking up my rates by 1309% and all - and a combination of a Windows Home Server, Windows Live Mesh, and a 2 TB external drive keep my data secure. How do you protect your precious data? Better yet, how do you protect the precious data of friends and family who don't know any better?

UPDATE: Yes, it's two World Backup Day posts in a row...what can I say, I really want you to all be backing up! :-)

XO Skins for iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:31 AM

http://xoskins.com/

I've used XO Skins since the iPhone 3G came out. In fact that XO Skin is still on that iPhone (my son uses it now) still providing protection. I've also got one on my recently retired 3GS, so I was happy to see they came out with a version for the iPhone 4. If you aren't familiar, XO Skins are a thin layer of polyurethane that provides protection to a wide variety of electronic devices, such as phones, laptops, GPS devices and much more. XO Skins makes the skins device specific, and pretty much covers any electronic device out there. Don't believe me? Well head on over to their product page and see for yourself. For the iPhone 4, they offer two types of protection: front screen only for $11.96 USD and front and back screens with side protection for $19.96 USD
