Recalls for Mophie and Rocketfish Cases

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/12/01/moph...rheating-cases/

"A couple of recall notices went out earlier today for Mophie and Rocketfish battery cases."

So Mophie and Rocketfish have cases on the recall list, both with overheating problems. If you have one of the Mophie cases (determined by the serial numbers with the first 5 digits between TR113 and TR120) then go here to get the recall form, or call 877-308-4581.

If you have one of the Rocketfish cases, which have the model number of RF-KL12 for the iPhone 3G or 3GS, you can go here to see the recall site they have set up, or you can call Best Buy at 800.917.5737.

Careful! Your 1st Generation iPod Nano May Overheat!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 AM

http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-5...subj=News-Apple

"Apple has begun a new replacement program for some of its first-generation iPod Nano units, which, the company says, contain batteries that can overheat."

Batteries in units sold between September 2005 and December 2006 pose a possible threat as they could overheat. The problem is with the battery apparently, and if you have one of the units (find out by going here) you can get a free replacement. The details are outlined here.

Apple Recalling "Some" 1TB Seagate Hard Drives

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Desktops" @ 08:30 PM

http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/22/apple...test-imac-line/

"Apple has issued a recall for a "small number" of 1TB Seagate hard drives in the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs."

You can go here to see if your iMac is one of the affected ones, and if it is, you will be able to find out what to do from the same page. The affected units were sold between May and July of 2011, and Apple will replace the drives for free.

Is There a Stealth Recall for iPhone 4s?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5587029/iphone-4...kyline=true&s=i

"Yesterday, a reader claimed that-after exchanging his iPhone 4-he couldn't reproduce the sharp signal drop caused by the antenna problem. Now, some readers have confirmed the story. However, others haven't seen any improvement in their replacement units."

From the thread, the reader told Apple that it was because his data was downloading very slow and they exchanged his iPhone 4. Once he got the new one, his problems went away. This was the same story for several responding in the thread so I suppose, if you are having similar issues, this may be one way to fix it. But if this is truly the case, it should be an official return/exchange issue for those having the problem. I wouldn't go as far as a complete recall of every single one of the +2 million iPhone 4s sold (mine is working fine), but it's definitely worth looking into an exchange policy, especially if the reports of problem solved with an exchange are true.

It's the End of the World for Apple! or Not, Depending on What You Believe I Suppose...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:40 PM

"With the iPhone 4's reception problems now out in the open, as a result of a Consumer Reports test, Apple will be forced to do a recall, says Wayne State University's Prof. Matthew Seeger. A specialist in crisis communications, Seeger argues that Apple's reputation is at stake. "It's critically important. The brand image is the most important thing Apple has. This is potentially devastating," he remarks."

Even the guys from Top Gear are making subtle references to the iPhone 4 "Grip of Death" as it has been called, so it really has gotten legs. But for someone such as the Professor Seeger to say a recall is in order is a bit much in my opinion.

Rogers and Bell Issue Recall for MiFi 2372

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.electronista.com/article...of.mifi.issues/

"Rogers today joined Bell in recalling the MiFi 2372. It explained the issue and warned that the lithium-ion battery pack in the router could swell and cut power. The battery cover is reportedly also difficult to remove and could damage the battery or the router if forced open."

Rogers is sending out envelopes to replace the batteries and covers, with an expected turnaround of 7 to 10 days, as well credit for time spent without the device. This is the HSPA version of the MiFi, so potential exists that it could affect other carriers.
