Careful! Your 1st Generation iPod Nano May Overheat!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 AM

http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-5...subj=News-Apple

"Apple has begun a new replacement program for some of its first-generation iPod Nano units, which, the company says, contain batteries that can overheat."

Batteries in units sold between September 2005 and December 2006 pose a possible threat as they could overheat. The problem is with the battery apparently, and if you have one of the units (find out by going here) you can get a free replacement. The details are outlined here.

The Underwater Armband for the Nano and Shuffle

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/06/...-your-new-ipod/

"Yep -- the same folks that enabled your iPod nano 5G to become an underwater camera have just created yet another underwater armband for Apple's latest."

It was designed by the folks over at H2O Audio, and it certainly looks well made doesn't it? It sells for $59.99 USD, but that is without the headphones. Those will set you back another $49.99 USD if you buy from H2O Audio. The armband itself will protect your device in up to 12 feet of water, and the window allows full functionality of the device.

iFixit Tears Down the Touch, Nano and Shuffle

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.gearlog.com/2010/09/ifix...davis+(Gearlog)

"There's a pretty immediate response these days--every time a shiny new gadget is announced, I wonder what the thing would look like unscrewed and pried apart. It makes me feel a bit like a gadget serial killer, to be perfectly honest--and I blame iFixIt."

iFixit had the trifecta, dismantling the iPod Touch, iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle. I always find these articles interesting, and especially this time with the Touch since they were able to make the device so thin. Amazing engineering.

iPod So Powerful it can Stop a Train!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPods" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/16/...train-in-tokyo/

"Poor Apple. The company just can't catch a break these days. On Wednesday, Apple Japan began offering customers iPod nano replacements, giving in to local government demands to better address an overheating battery issue affecting Apple's first generation iPod nano players."

Apparently this iPod owner was one of those who didn't take up Apple on its offer, or perhaps she was on her way to the Apple store to do just that when this happened. How ironic would that have been?

The Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPod touch 2G, 3G; iPod nano 4G; iPhone 3G (Black)is something I just picked up, wondering if I could actually put to use some of the old charging cables that are currently gathering dust in one of my drawers. Is this the fix-all that I was hoping for? Well, not quite, but read on.

VideoBuddy for the iPod Nano

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPods" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.gizmag.com/videobuddy-ip...-adapter/13045/

"Owners of the new iPod nano 5G will no doubt be racking up hours of video footage by now and looking to inflict - I mean, share - their videos with all and sundry. While the nano's 2.2-inch display might be ok "on the set", nothing beats a TV to demand everyone's attention."

And now you can see all those videos from your iPod Nano on your TV with this setup called the VideoBuddy. This also has the authentication chip and is powered by the iPod. It is available now from GEAR4 for approximately $48.00 USD.

Nano Shoots Color

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPods" @ 10:00 AM

I seem to be on a Nano kick today. Apple ads are so well done I like to share them. Enjoy.

And if you are curious about a head to head competition with some of the pocket camcorders and the nano, PCWorld has a comparison test posted on their site.

Nano Breakdown

"The pioneers at iFixit are at it again, this time exploring the Loop's newest, coolest gadget - the iPod nano."

Once you read all about the Nano and what David Pogue has to say, you might as well get into the inner workings of it and take it apart right? I like these take apart articles, to see just what is inside and what parts they decided on using to get the functionality, and I'm really glad someone else is doing it on their dime.

Pogue Reviews the Nano

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPods" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.macdailynews.com/index.p...k_trojan_horse/

"Apple's new 5th-gen iPod nano, unveiled this past Wednesday, is "exactly the same size as the previous one: 3.6 x 1.5 x 0.2 inches. That is, it's a wafer-thin, rounded-edged slab that comes in 9 metallic colors," David Pogue reports for The New York Times."

It is a down and dirty quick review of the Nano, something that Pogue seems to really like. I have to admit I'm tempted to pick one up to play with. The video quality is standard definition and is like the iPhone 3GS according to Pogue. You can read the entire review here.

iPod Lineup Makeover

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 08:00 AM

There were some hits and misses with the rumor mill, so lets get into it and see just what was revealed by the man behind the curtain.

iPod Touch Revamped

Since this was a music event, the upgrades to the iPod lineup were expected, and for the most part didn't disappoint. Let's start with the iPod Touch. The price was dropped on the 8GB model to $199.00 USD, $30 cheaper than before, and the 16GB and 32GB models doubled their memory without an increase in price. The 32GB version is $299.00 USD and the 64GB model is $399.00. According to Apple, the 32GB and 64GB versions are 50% faster and have OpenGL ES 2.0 support.

Woot: 8 Gig 4th Gen Nanos = $99.99

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPods" @ 05:30 AM

http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=7976

"But now I come back from a measly six-week getaway to my private island in the Bahamas and what do I find? We’re selling the latest iPod Nano? Seriously? Not the second generation? Not an off-brand copycat mp3 player? What’s wrong with you all? You should have seen the fit I threw in the executive spa. Lotions and balms were flying everywhere. I’m pretty sure I cracked a couple 17th-Century Delftware tiles. You know how Poppa gets when he’s upset. One of my personal assistants—the short one who wears the funky glasses, I forget names—finally calmed me down a little by assuring me that AT LEAST these Nanos are refurbished. But what meager comfort that is! I mean—Crom on a crutch, people, look at these things! They’re really nice."

Not a bad deal, really. If you've been holding off on getting one, you might as well save a few bucks. It's nice to see Woot offering something that's relatively new from Apple, rather than their typically "few years old" iPod rehashes and knockoffs.
