iPhone 4 Owner Beats Samsung Galaxy S Owner in Texting Contest

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/08/25/ipho...msung-galaxy-s/

"This just in from the "bragging about marginally useful skills" department. This week, Salford, UK-based Melissa Thompson set a "texting speed record" on her Samsung Galaxy S by typing two sentences in 25.94 seconds. The sentences in question were: "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human." Note that Melissa used a Swype keyboard on the Galaxy."

That record stood for a couple hours, and then <cue the music> came Brian and his iPhone 4. Who knows if it's official, and I really am not going to lose sleep wondering about it. However, congrats on the record Brian, I'm sure the skill will come in handy someday when you, um... Well, I'm sure that it will come in handy and let's leave it at that.

"In addition to today's Aperture update, Apple has released a series of printer driver updates. Brother Printer Drivers for Mac OS X v10.6 weighs in at 100MB and includes the latest Brother printing and scanning software for Snow Leopard."

The updates came out yesterday, one set for Brother Printers found here, and one set for Samsung printers found here. Of course you can also get them via the Software Update feature on OS X.

Storm Brews, Turns to Drizzle

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Talk" @ 10:26 AM

The LG Voyager. The Dare. The Samsung Glyde. The Samsung Instinct. The T-Mobile G1.

They've all come and gone quite quietly, haven't they? For all the marketing hype about the Instinct and Sprint's absolutely gigantic ad campaign, it's gone nowhere. The LG Voyager? Touch may do more on the nation's largest 3G network, but if no one has the phone, they'll never know. The Dare? Never actually seen one in the wild. The Glyde? Almost every gadget site that reviewed it said it had the worst browser they had ever seen on a phone. The G1? Niche for now, and way close to "slapped together with duct tape" to be taken seriously (although honestly, I do expect that to change in the coming months).

And now we can add the BlackBerry Storm to the list. Congratulations tech press; you've invented yet another "iPhone Killer." Read more...
