Twelve South With Unique Way to Merge Wireless Keyboard and Trackpad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ba...d-wireless-key/

"Young though it may be, Twelve South has become a reliable source of smart accessories for Apple users over the past year and a half. MacBooks notably benefitted from the sturdy BookArc stand, iPad users more recently received the super-sharp portable Compass, and now desktop Mac users are getting in on the action with MagicWand ($30), a typically well-named accessory aimed at users of Apple's Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad."

What a simple yet effective way to merge the two accessories. Other than having to deal with issues like the power button on the keyboard being blocked, and the battery access point blocked on the trackpad requiring you to disassemble it partially to access these points, it appears to do the job of joining both peripherals.

A Tray for Your Keyboard, Trackpad and Remote

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 04:39 AM

"Keep your wireless keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and Apple remote neat, perfectly placed, and right at your fingertips. For those of us who don't have the full collection, there are three variations of this black walnut keyboard tray, so no worries."

This would be perfect in the living room or home theater, but I can also see it sitting on a desk in any office, Well done setup to hold all of the items, or you can get a modified version if you don't have all three accessories. A keyboard only tray runs $69.00 USD, keyboard and trackpad cost $74.00 USD and the one pictured above sells for $79.00 USD. You can find more info about these setups at the Combine Collective site.

Hands on With the Magic Trackpad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 08:00 AM

"We got our anxious hands-on all over Apple's Magic Trackpad today, and it's certainly a thing of beauty."

That thing is huge when you put it in perspective, such as next to the Bluetooth keyboard that is being used in this video.

Some Information About the Magic Trackpad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 07:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5597970/driver-u.../full+(Gizmodo)

"The Magic Trackpad has just shown up and Apple has already issued a driver update for it."

The update will also enable the inertial scrolling and three-finger dragging (if you want to move windows around) on MacBooks and MacBook Pros with the multi-touch trackpads. You will need to have 10.6.4 though to get it working properly, and if you are curious to see if it will work on your Macbook, Edible Apple has a list of all the compatible versions. You can find more info at Apple, and download the update as well [link].

And to answer a question some of you may have since it is Bluetooth, the folks at Gearlog tried to get the Trackpad to work with an iPhone and iPad. And the result is no, it doesn't work with either and is an OS X only product. One additional note, the buttons for the Trackpad are on the feet not on the surface, which is an interesting design feature, but it makes sense.

Winning Combo Released: Trackpad and Battery Charger

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 10:49 AM

http://news.worldofapple.com/archiv...World+of+Apple)

"Apple has today released the Magic Trackpad, a multi-touch glass trackpad for desktop computers. The Magic Trackpad gives desktop users the same intuitive multi-touch gestures that Mac notebook customers have come to love and is available separately for $69 (£59)."

Ah, I have been hoping they would come out with one of these [link]. I was just about to purchase a new mouse but held off in hopes that there would be a release soon so I'm glad I was patient, which isn't easy for me! Couple that with the $29.00 USD battery charger [link] and it's a winning combo. How about you, do you think this will replace your mouse or do you plan on using it in conjunction with your mouse? And what about the charger?

MacBook / MacBook Pro Trackpad Update Available Now

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article..._trackpads.html

"Apple has released a software update to address an issue where trackpad clicks would randomly go unrecognized on its latest notebook offerings: the MacBook (Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (Late 2008). "This firmware update addresses an issue where trackpad clicks may not be recognized on MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) computers," the company said."

As I stated in my original review of the MacBook Pro, the trackpad was giving me grief. As cool as it was when it worked, it was finicky in a way that was starting to become counterproductive. A few weeks after its release, a customer wrote to Steve Jobs and got a response that they were aware of the issue and working toward a fix for it. Today was the day and it did exactly that. My trackpad works perfectly now and my only real "issue" with my MBP is now gone. Thankfully, I no longer want to punt it out my kitchen window in frustration. Anyone else grab it yet?

New MacBooks Not "Clicking" With Owners?

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 11:00 AM

http://arstechnica.com/journals/app...trackpad-issues

"Apple is reportedly looking into issues regarding its no-buttoned glass trackpad on its new MacBooks and MacBook Pros. According to a blog post by an Apple fan, he had sent an e-mail to Steve Jobs over issues he was having with the new hardware. He then received a call from an Apple representative shortly after sending the message, who said that Apple was currently "looking into the complaints, but has no immediate resolution."

I'm just putting the finishing touches on my review of the new MacBook Pro, and honestly I haven't bumped into this precise issue. I have had my share of fidgitiness (is that even a word?) with the tracking, but the clicking seems to be working fine. The good news, of course, is that Apple seems to have gotten enough complaints that they're actually looking into it. I'm wondering though; if you've already gotten yours, are you having issues with the trackpad clicking or any other issues with the new glass trackpad? I'm interested to know how widespread this actually is.
