The Converge Charging Station from Think Geek

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.imore.com/2012/04/08/con...pod-touch-ipad/

"The Converge USB charging hub from Think Geek is a fun, futon-inspired stand for your iPhone, iPod tour or iPad."

Nice looking stand, and it's available now right here. Only $39.95 and you get a clean, compact design that will charge up to 4 devices via USB connectors, all hidden neatly behind the stand.

RCA's USB Wall Charger, Just Plug It In!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/165...l#lsrc.rss_main

"Most modern smartphones, tablets, MP3 players, and other gadgets rely on USB-based chargers. Some of these come with their own AC wall adapters, while others include nothing more than a USB cable-meaning you have to plug them into your computer to get them charged."

The nice thing about this thing is that you just plug it into the existing outlet, so it's basically a cover. No need to replace the current outlet so you don't have to worry about shocking yourself silly. And it goes for the small sum of $15.00 USD at Lowes (currently out of stock in my area), or you can get it at Amazon.com for $12.47 USD (currently in stock with both white and almond colored versions).

Another Charging Option for Your USB Devices

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.macnews.com/2012/01/05/j...way-car-charger

"Just Mobile has launched Just Mobile Highway, an US$34.95 in-car charger for the iPhone, iPad and other USB-powered devices."

I have a couple similar devices, but this one really looks slick. But for $34.95 USD, compared to the $10.00 USD or so I spent on mine, it better look good right? The bonus here is that it also comes with an Apple certified charging cable, something that didn't come with my chargers. You can find out more at Just Mobile.

Just How Fast is This Over The Air Syncing?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5850039/ios-5-sy...yncing-worth-it

"One of the big new features in iOS 5 is liberation from your sync cable. Now, you can sync your music, movies, and apps all over Wi-Fi-albeit a bit slower than over USB. How much slower? We put it to the test to find out whether it was still fast enough to be worth your time."

As you can see, and as expected, it is faster to do all of this over USB, however I think the convenience of sync and forget, which will allow you to continue to use your iDevice will be worth the negatives of the slower speeds. What are your thoughts?

Charge Your USB Devices on the Road With This Handy Travel Charger

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:35 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/27/...usb-juicing-in/

"We've seen some rather inventive USB chargers in our time, but surprisingly few have managed to make charging while traveling a painless process."

Heck, I might even use this at home for regular charging. Power up to three devices and fold it up when you aren't using it. It is a bit pricey at $79.95 USD, but at least it won't become obsolete any time soon.

Charge Your Portable Device While Waiting on Mass Transit

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/07/15/ipho...us-shelter-ads/

"The next time you're waiting for that bus that is really, really late, there's no need to worry about your iPhone or iPad battery dying. Thanks to a creative ad company and the Vitaminwater brand, bus shelters in several American cities are being equipped with a USB port for charging."

Not too bad of an option if you use mass transit, as I imagine the wait can get pretty boring if you have to conserve your battery power. Currently they are only placing these in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, and no word on if it will be expanded. Nice ad gimmick that would make Don Draper proud.

ChargeBlock, A Portable Charging Option For Several Devices

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:43 AM

http://www.macnews.com/2011/05/25/c...when-youre-road

"When you want true power, power to dominate your iDevices, look no further than the Miccus ChargeBlock for iPad. Not only will it charge your iPad (1 or 2) or iPhone but practically any USB devices and does so with a size and dimension not much different than previous generations of iPhones. This is simply a must-have device for power on the road."

At $99.00 USD it isn't cheap, but for the road warrior it might be a handy tool to add to the arsenal if for nothing else it's flexibility. It was specifically designed to fast charge the iPad, both versions, but with the included USB tips and 12V charging port, it can also charge your iPhone, Droid, digital camera, netbook and Playbook among other things. The best thing is that it comes as a complete package, so not only do you get the ChargeBlock and AC adapter, you also get several charge tips for Mini and Micro USB and a handy carry bag. You can find out more about it at the ChargeBlock site, and right now it appears you can get it at our affiliate store for the discounted price of $75.00 USD [affiliate link].

Great Deal on iPhone 4 Power Adapter from TiPb

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:19 PM

http://store.tipb.com/apple-usb-pow...e/5A17A5673.htm

"Featuring a compact design, this convenient USB-based power adapter offers fast, efficient charging at home, in the office, or on the go. It works with iPhone 4 and all iPod models with a dock connector."

I have several USB cables for iPhones, but with the iPhone 4 and the bumper, I have to use the latest version (unless I want to take off my bumper to charge and that gets annoying) of the power adapter in order for it to fit properly. Dropping $30.00 USD isn't my idea of fun so with this sale, it only makes it half as painful since they are selling them over at TiPb for $14.95 USD. Great deal if you need an extra adapter.

Verbatim Drives, Double as Paperclip

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.gearlog.com/2010/11/verb...davis+(Gearlog)

"Last month, we mentioned the new Verbatim Clip-It USB drive: a fun, if not quirky, way to store data while keeping a stack of papers from blowing away in a stiff wind. At the time, pricing and availability hadn't been announced, but today Verbatim said they would be available in the United States just in time for the holidays."

Clever idea, but at $19.99 USD you wouldn't exactly want to stock your exhibition booth with these babies.

Palm at Fault?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/09/23/usb-...plaining-to-do/

"Didn't you hate it when you were a kid, and you would complain to an adult about something one of your siblings was doing, just to end up getting yourself in more trouble than they ended up in? Well, you might say that's exactly what is happening to Palm and their ongoing dispute with Apple over the Pre's ability to sync with iTunes."

So Palm files a complaint with the USB-IF (USB Implementers Forum) about Apple "violating the letter and spirit of the USB-IF Membership Agreement" and the USB-IF appears to be taking the side of.... wait for it ..... Apple. In fact the USB-IF is hinting that Palm may be in violation of the agreement instead! Interesting.
