More Speculation on a White iPod Touch

Posted by Michael Knutson in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:30 AM

http://9to5mac.com/2011/09/20/more-...e+Intelligence)

"We’ve been rambling on about white iPod touches for awhile now. Back in June we postulated that Apple would create a white iPod touch after successive launches of white iPhone and iPad and launched a survey (over 80% of you wanted that guy above)."

As we've seen with demand for a white iPhone, potential buyers are clamoring for a white iPod Touch. Several sources have written that it's on its way, and opine that the only changes will be color, an oleophobic coating on the display, and a better ambient light sensor. Apparently users hoping for a better camera are going to be disappointed. Wouldn't it make sense to build only one device (okay, with two colors) that is an iPod and an iPhone, with the ability to "turn on/off" phone features? Is there a significant cost bump adding 3G / 4G phone features? Just wondering.

White iPhone 4 Available Tomorrow, April 28th

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:11 AM

http://www.apple.com/iphone/

"Apple® today announced that the white iPhone® 4 will be available beginning tomorrow. White iPhone 4 models will be available from Apple's online store (www.apple.com), at Apple's retail stores, AT&T and Verizon Wireless stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers."

With this image splashed across the main screen of the Apple website, I guess it is safe to say that tomorrow is indeed the day that the white iPhone makes it's debut. You can find out more about it at the iPhone page or by going to this press release from Apple about the launch of the white iPhone 4.

White iPhone 4 Tomorrow?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/16gb-model...-no-32gb-models

"It seems more and more likely that Wednesday will be the day the infamous white iPhone 4 is launched, finally putting an end to the rumors that have surrounded the device for the last 10 months since it was originally announced. There's one more before the big day, however: it seems that only the 16GB model of the device will be available when it hits stores."

This info from Boy Genius Report, source of many breaking news stories, and it lists tomorrow as the "In Stock Date" at this AT&T store. It appears, so far at least, that it will only be the 16GB version. I'm not too fond of the white iPhone myself, but I do know a few people that have been waiting for this day. How about you, are you kind of "meh" like me or is this news really exciting you?

Has Apple Given Up on the White iPhone 4?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.macrumors.com/2010/10/28...m-online-store/

"Following another delay until spring 2011 for the white iPhone 4 and rumors that the device has been canceled altogether, Apple has now removed mention of the model from its primary ordering page for the iPhone 4 in all localizations of its online store."

I have been reading several stories over the last week about delays in production but that potentially the white iPhone 4 would make it's appearance in the Spring of 2011, but perhaps that is now wishful thinking as Apple has removed any mention of the white iPhone 4 from their pages on the online store. You can still see photos of this white iPhone in promotional shots, but it sounds like it might not ever happen. What are your thoughts? Do you think it will happen or is this a color that just isn't going to make it on the iPhone 4?

iPhone 4 in White! Wait a Minute, Not so Fast...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:41 AM

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/201...estatement.html

"White models of Apple's new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."

And there you have it, the press release in it's entirety. I had to chuckle at the wording about the "more popular iPhone 4 black model" though, how could it not be more popular when it's the only one you have to sell?! So is the delay due to problems getting the color right or is Apple taking this opportunity to re-work the design, what are your thoughts?

You Can't Have The White iPhone 4 Until July

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:00 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/152...l?lsrc=rss_main

"Well, the case of the missing white iPhone 4 has finally received a response from on high. Apple has issued a press release saying that the white model of the new device has "proven more challenging to manufacture than expected." It won't become available until the second half of July."

I would rather have a product without problems, so I'm hoping that these "difficulties" will make it a better iPhone when it finally is released. Aw, what is a month or so longer anyway right? You can read the press release here.

Reserve Any Color You Want, As Long As It's Black!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.tipb.com/2010/06/14/att-...phone-4-launch/

"...there's some doubt as to whether or not AT&T is going to have any white iPhones on stock for launch day (or in the coming days after)."

Well there is no doubt at Apple, as you can see from the screenshot above when I checked on pre-ordering an iPhone 4. No word yet on when the white iPhone 4's will be available, but it sounds like they won't even be available on launch day.

MacBook Owners Circa 2006 and 2007, Check Your Hard Drive

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/apple-repl...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"Mea culpa. If you bought a MacBook between 2006 and 2007 and your hard drive sounds like an unoiled rock tumbler trying to work its way through a belly full of rusty bolts, you could be eligible for a free replacement, courtesy of Apple."

According to Apple, a "very small percentage of plastic MacBooks may fail under certain conditions." So they are offering to replace the hard drive if you bring it in to a Genius Bar. The MacBooks in question are both the black and the white ones that were sold between May 2006 and December 2007. According to this page at Apple, the diagnosis is fairly simple: your computer stops working and at boot up, it displays a folder icon with a question mark on it. If you have already paid for a repair for this, you might be able to get a refund, and they are extending the eligibility to three years from purchase or August 15, 2010, whichever is longer.

White MacBooks Outspeed Aluminum Ones

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/140...benchmarks.html

"The latest entry-level MacBook rolled out by Apple a week ago offers more than just an improvement on the white laptop it replaces in Apple's notebook line. According to Macworld Lab tests, this new system outperforms the 2GHz aluminum unibody MacBook that costs $300 more."

That's pretty insane, if you ask me, although understandable. The Aluminum models haven't gotten a spec bump since they came out while the Whitebook just got one. Newer usually means faster. Yet again this proves what most of us have been saying and already know: the Whitebook is a great value, a good workhorse, and a powerful machine.

Chew on that, laptop hunters.

Returning to the Mac: 1 Year Later

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple Laptops" @ 04:00 PM

http://skepteye.com/2008/12/08/macb...inal-scorecard/

"After being entrenched in Microsoft Windows territory for many years, due to professional necessity and excellent experiences with the IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad product line, I decided to take a leap back into the Mac fold in February of this year. At the time I was still sporting a nearly four year old ThinkPad as my personal laptop, and while this was an absolute workhorse system, it was time for something fresh. On February 5, I walked into my local Apple Store and purchased a 13″ white MacBook, essentially the base model, for $1099. Certainly no beast with its low-end specs (by Mac standards), and only an 80GB hard drive, I was simply looking for a decent machine to take with me on trips, enjoy while not working, and primarily use as a way to "learn" Mac OS again."

Dave is a friend of mine who made the trip back to the Mac, and after a bit of a rough start he seems pretty happy with his Whitebook. I would say his experiences match most returning Mac users' experiences pretty well. A little bumpy at first (even with the occasional hardware failure) but after that, it's all smooth sailing. Mostly. Check out his article, though. Very well-written and well-thought out.
