This Custom iPad Case is Amazing

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/161888/you...-folio-gallery/

"Holy crap. Check out this amazing custom iPad cover Redditor 44 Oz. had made for him by Australian-based leatherworking firm High On Glue, made with premium leather, suede lining, a kangaroo leather spine and embossed with the original Apple logo designed by Ron Wayne back in 1976, featuring Sir Isaac Newton resting under an Apple tree."

I'm with the author, as I don't normally like folio cases either but this one is certainly amazing. Makes me wish I had continued on with my leatherwork practice from 4H. If you want to order one, you can go check it out on this page and get your email in, it might be awhile though.

Lederhosen for Your MacBook (Not Mine)

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 02:00 PM

http://gizmodo.com/5839464/lederhos...leeve/gallery/1

"I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that I need to shut up as you let the wonderful of the world's first lederhosen MacBook sleeve wash over you. Sure, fine, getting out of your way."

Yea, I don't think I will be purchasing one of these, but to each his or her own I suppose.

DecalGirl and GelaSkins: Different Levels of iPad Protection

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Talk" @ 08:00 AM

Remember that awesome skin above that I posted about a month or so ago? Well, I decided to swap the iPad 2 32 GB for a 64 GB model - my local Apple Store made it incredibly easy for me, allowing me to keep the 32 GB iPad until the 64 GB models came back into stock (which was an extra two weeks). Even though Apple email support can sometimes be downright creepy, I've had mostly good experiences inside the Apple store. Back to the skin: I removed the Wolverine skin (which came from GelaSkins) and left it for a few hours, hoping it would restore some of it's original form. Read more...

It's Cool, Retro Cool

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.cultofmac.com/the-v-luxe...retro-fantastic

"You will not buy this. You will not think it's practical. You will not think it's a good return on investment. But you will still lust and droll over Paula Anne Patterson's gorgeous, retrotastic new Kickstarter project."

Well, apparently enough thought it cool enough to fund since the project is now fully funded at over $5,000.00 USD [link]. I have to admit, if I had the space for it I could find a spot for this beauty.

Protect the Back of Your iPad 2, and Match Your Smart Cover at the Same Time

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 PM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2011/05/...er-apple-forgot

"Apple's Smart Covers are the perfect fit for the iPad 2. Unfortunately, they don't protect the backside of the iDevice. Now the folks at HyperShield have released their line of Back Covers for the iPad 2."

These are quite nice, and at only $19.95 USD from HyperShield, it seems to be a pretty good deal. Especially when you can get a shield to match the color of your Smart Cover. It also is gel-like so it offers some protection for the back, and is resistant to stretching.

Got Wood?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5694317/wooden-i.../full+(Gizmodo)

"When we first screwed on Material6's wooden iPhone 4 replacement backplates, we weren't sure what to think. Would we get looks of envy? Looks of scorn? Were they just straight up ugly? A few weeks later, we're in love."

Meh, I'm not such a fan of this, especially not for $89.00 USD. But if you are, you can head over to the MaterialSix website and pick your choice of wood to put on the back of your iPhone.

Moleskine for the iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comm...etell+Appletell

"If you have never written on a Moleskine before, you don't know what you're missing. And if you never used an iPad before, well, I wouldn't start by reading an iPad case review. The way Moleskine elevated standard notebooks (much like Starbucks "premiumizing" coffee), they have now done the same with iPad case."

They have versions for Kindle and iPhone, along with this iPad version at their home page, and it appears to be a nice combination of digital and analog if you will. If you just cant quite cut the ties to paper, this would be a good combo case. It retails for $64.99 USD.

WaterField Designs, a Case for Every Need

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.sfbags.com

Recently, I was sent a case for Apple's iPad from Waterfield Designs to test out on my iPad. Waterfield Designs is a company based out of San Francisco that designs and manufactures (yes you read that right, they make them right where they design them in San Francisco) a variety of bags and covers for all sorts of electronic devices as well as bags and wallets. For the iPad they sell four or five styles, from the Ultimate Sleeve Case that runs in the area of $55.00 USD to the Personal Muzetto that sells for $179.00 USD. This particular case was the iPad Slip Case, available (as you can see above) in six different colors and sells for $29.95 USD. I never thought about using a slip case for my iPad since I purchased the Apple cover for it, but once I got this out of the package and saw how well built it was, I wanted to give it a shot.

The Book of Jobs, Really?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.cultofmac.com/steve-jobs...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"The formidable Economist magazine has blessed Steve Jobs with a rare cover story examining the potential impact of the Jesus tablet. Even rarer, the iPad story is mostly positive, even if the religious imagery is over the top."

Yes, it is a little over the top in my opinion. You can read the story here.

Protect That iPad!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/01/27/tom-...-two-ipad-bags/

"And let the accessorizing begin! Tom Bihn, maker of messenger bags and laptop bags, has already announced two bags that will fit the iPad."

One called the Cache is more like a sleeve, and the other called Ristretto is pictured above. Tom Bihn isn't the only one either, the folks at Magnetism have also jumped into the iPad case field offering a couple choices of their own, but instead of synthetic material they use clothing grade fabric and linings. Not to be outdone Belkin also has a line of iPad covers. I'm sure in the next month or two many more will jump into the fray for accessories for the iPad. But to tell you the truth, the cover that Apple came up with is pretty slick and will be hard to beat.

A "Book" Cover for Your MacBook

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 12:00 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/145...ss_products_mac

"Ever wish your MacBook was a little more, well, bookish? If so, you're in luck! The folks at Twelve South are putting the 'book' in 'MacBook' with the aptly named BookBook case."

At $79.95 USD for the 13-inch MacBook, it is a bit bulky for my tastes. But if you want a novelty cover that is unique, perhaps is what you are looking for. It doesn't really appeal to me, but to each his own.

Need a Fancy Sleeve for Your MacBook?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Laptops" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/high-end-m...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"I've never paid much attention to laptop sleeves, but as they get fancier and fancier, they are becoming perhaps the most popular MacBook accessory out there. At least, that's according to one high-end sleeve and case maker from Australia."

These are definitely nice cases/sleeves, and they should be for what they charge, starting at $99.95 USD and going up from there. They have quite the collection on their website, including some phone cases. If I were in the business of meeting clients, etc and wanted to make an impression, I might consider something like this.
