RIM CEO Job On The Line as RIM Falls Behind Apple

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "The Competition" @ 11:18 AM

http://www.appleinsider.com/article...of_co_ceos.html

"With Apple's iPhone now significantly outperforming Research in Motion's BlackBerry line and the company struggling to respond, some investors have called for a change in leadership at the Canadian smartphone maker."

No big shock I suppose, as it happens in other industries too. Company not performing and they look at the top for someone's head to roll. Makes me wonder what might happen over at Microsoft if things keep going the way they are.

So, How Do You Get a Job With Apple?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Talk" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/want-to-ge...ooks-like/88380

"For some people, getting the chance to work for Apple seems like one of the coolest jobs on the planet. Being surrounded by everything Apple. Super discounts on iMacs. Talking to customers about how incredibly magical the products are. If that all sounds awesome to you then go ahead and disregard the fact that it's easier to get into Harvard than to get hired by Apple. Here is Cult of Mac's first-hand look at how the Apple hiring process plays out."

Surprisingly the blogger from Cult of Mac got pretty far in the process. I found this an interesting read, especially in that he actually was given an interview after they knew he was a writer for Cult of Mac. If you are planning on getting a job with Apple, or at least exploring it as an option, this does offer some good tips. And if you are just curious, its worth the read.

In More Job News, Apple is Hiring

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.cultofmac.com/apple-is-h...w+(Cult+of+Mac)

"It's a sure thing that the iPad will get a camera in its second generation. After all, there's already an empty, iSight-shaped slot in the iPad's frame, and it's pretty much a sure thing that both the next iPhone and iPod Touch will have a camera. It would be absurd if the iPad didn't get one soon as well."

The job listing (posted here) tells the story, in which they say the "Media Systems team is looking for a software quality engineer with a strong technical background to test still, video and audio capture and playback frameworks." Since this is in the iPad Media Department, I'd say the chances are pretty good they are planning to have a camera in the iPad. If they are just now posting the job though, how long will it be before they actually get a camera in the iPad?

Want to Work For Boxee?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 12:00 PM

"A new job listing from Boxee has confirmed plans to enter into mobile apps. The startup is hoping to begin work with a Lead iPhone and iPad App Developer that would bring the company's media front end to Apple's handhelds. It also dropped a hint that an Android version is next, as the new hire's experience with Google's mobile OS would be 'a plus.'"

The job listing is posted here at Boxee.

Want to Work in Cupertino?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.ipodnn.com/articles/10/0...ll.into.motion/

"Apple's Cupertino headquarters is now hiring for a new position, that of an iPhone advertising SDK manager."

If you are hired, expect to "manage a team working on the frameworks included in the iPhone SDK." Just what does this mean? Well it is in the realm of advertising so it is probably associated with the purchase of Quattro, the mobile advertiser, earlier this year. You will need to have experience not only in advertising but also Mac OS X, Cocoa, Unix and/or variants of C. Apple has posted the job here, so if interested check it out, oh, and good luck!

Want a Job at Apple?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 09:00 AM

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...tm_campaign=rss

"Apple is planning to leverage its work in transforming Mac OS X to work on other devices-most specifically the iPhone-to power "new platforms," according to a recent job posting. Those platforms will also be powered by "custom silicon," like Apple's A4 processor that powers the iPad."

You can see the job posting at Apple here, and it outlines they are looking for a full-time engineering manager to "oversee platform bringup with the Core Platform Team." Part of the duties will also be to "coordinate the software team with hardware and custom silicon teams in developing and prototyping new platforms." Anyway, lots of conjecture with this job posting as to what it all means for the future. Leveraging the architecture would certainly be one way to keep the revenue coming in, but do you think Apple will do that? What are your thoughts?

Need a New Job With Apple?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 09:00 AM

http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/12/2...k-in-the-cloud/

"A year ago Apple launched iWork.com in beta, which allowed users of their office suite of applications to publish documents online. It's a light feature set compared to Google Docs and Office 10 - just viewing and commenting. But a job posting suggests Apple may be creating a true collaborative cloud based version of the iWork apps."

"From design to development" is what the job posting says and also is what caught the eye of TechCrunch. You can view the job posting here, but it does sound like they are looking for someone to help them start something new. And from the text of the posting it will be associated with their beta site, iWork.com.

Looking for a Job at Apple?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple News" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.9to5mac.com/apple_iphone...e+Intelligence)

"Apple appears to be making plans to add a dash of Cupertino magic to mapping and is searching for an iPhone Software Engineer to join the iPhone and iPod touch Maps team, MacRumors informs."

From the job listing, "The iPhone and iPod touch Maps team is looking for a proactive and hardworking software engineer to join our team." And further, "As an engineer on the Maps team, your responsibilities will range from implementing low-level client/server code to implementing high-level user interfaces. You'll be responsible for implementing new and innovative features, fixing problems and enhancing the performance of Maps. You will work closely with the other engineers on the Maps team, other iPhone and iPod touch teams as well our partners in other companies." The ad also states they want to take maps to the "next level" so conjecture is that they may be going outside Google in the future, especially since Apple bought a stake in Place Base and the founder is now part of the Geo Team at Apple.
