Apple Releases a Podcast App

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 02:00 AM

"Apple has just released their new Podcasts app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. While it's not as feature-rich or complex as some other podcast apps on the App Store, if it's your first time using a podcast app, you may be wandering just how exactly to get started using it."

Good primer on how to use this universal app, in case you aren't familiar with podcasts. I've gotten away from listening to them myself, but that's only because my commute is a lot shorter. Do you still listen to podcasts? If so, have you tried this new app?

Find Out How Podcast

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 10:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/146...l?lsrc=rss_news

"For some time, Apple has given the Designated Family Tech Support Personnel among us a small reprieve with its "Find out how" selection of tutorial videos. While they don't really tackle inevitable questions like "was deleting ~/Library/Keychains a bad idea?," they serve as succinct primers for The Way of the Mac and Apple's various apps and services."

You can still go direct to Apple and view the video series, or you can head on over to iTunes and download a podcast. Just search iTunes for "Apple find out how" and you will get the list of nine podcasts that include iWork '09, MobileMe and iTunes.

University of Warwick on iTunes U

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch)" @ 11:00 AM

"If you ask a college student about the current favourites on their iPod, you might expect to hear of artists such as Lady Gaga, British Sea Power, or maybe even Michael Jackson for the newly nostalgic. Ask the same question on the campus of the Warwick Business School and you might be surprised when students remove their earphones to tell you that they are catching up on macroeconomics and analysis of the credit crisis, or that they are reviewing the latest thinking on creative management."

There is quite a list of participating educational institutions in iTunes U, and now University of Warwick has joined the mix. This is a great way to educate yourself on a number of topics, from business and finance to humanities and history.

Jobs Back, And Now You Can Watch the Presentation

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Events" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comm...e-jobs-is-back/

"The lights had only just dimmed as the most exciting part of the press conference happened; Steve Jobs walked onto the stage to huge cheers and applause, looking fit and healthy. Wearing his trademark black turtleneck top and jeans, he expressed his gratitude towards the team at Apple and everyone's continued support during his health leave."

And this began the Apple music event called "It's Only Rock and Roll" yesterday, something that not everyone was convinced would happen, and that had been one of the rumors swirling around the net. If you, like most of us, had to settle for watching the streaming blogs to get the news, you can now watch the event via Apple's Quicktime link. Or if you prefer, you can head over to iTunes and download this and other Apple events.

Rumor: Podcast Downloading in iPhone Firmware 2.2

Posted by Vincent Ferrari in "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" @ 01:00 PM

http://www.macrumors.com/2008/11/06...n-2-2-firmware/

"The new iTunes Store screenshots confirm that Apple will be delivering over-the-air downloads for both video and audio podcasts. According to Schimanke, podcast downloads will be limited to episodes less than 10MB in size when using the cellular network. The screenshots also show off the new App Store category view with icons embedded. Additional 2.2 features previously revealed include the addition of Google Street View and Japanese Emoji icons."

Welcome news? Most definitely. If this rumor turns out to be true, one of the biggest knocks against the iPhone will have been remedied internally and officially. It's also nice, if this screenshot is true, that you don't have to be hooked up via WiFi to use the feature. Me? I don't really care one way or the other. Honestly, I've long since become disenchanted with a lot of podcasts I used to love and only listen to / watch a few of them, but it would be nice to not have to hook up my iPhone to grab the latest episodes. Any of you out there excited about this? Have you been holding out on the iPhone because it didn't do podcast downloading natively?
