The Daily Arrives on the iPhone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.imore.com/2012/05/03/dai...-iphone-review/

"The Daily was the very first custom daily news app created for the iPad back in 2011, and now you can get all that great content on your iPhone. The Daily for iPhone is beautiful and extremely easy to use app for Newsstand - no fluff or complicated UI's to distract from reading your news!"

I love The Daily and read it, well, daily. Now it's even better that it's on the iPhone. I can't count the number of times this could have come in handy for me. Well wishes do come true I guess. How about you? Are you a "Daily" reader?

The Daily Extends Free Period Until February 28th

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 05:00 AM

http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/02...il-february-28/

"When the iPad-only news subscription app The Daily launched, it debuted on the App Store with a free two week trial courtesy of Verizon. Today, it has emerged that the free trial has been extended until February 28 as News Corp. awaits the release of Apple's iOS 4.3 firmware update."

Two more weeks than they initially offered, so that's a bonus. Some financials for this app are that it cost $30 million to set up and will cost approximately $500,000 per week to keep afloat. That is a lot of subscriptions, and while some of the interface is rather clunky for me, I do enjoy the quality of the writing.

The Daily, Now Available in Australia

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 09:30 AM

"If you've been hankering to get a gander at Rupert Murdoch's new iPad-only electronic newspaper, and haven't wanted to stuff around creating a free US iTunes account, good news - you can now get your official dose of The Daily, down under."

Now you don't have to have a US iTunes account to get The Daily, at least if you are living in Australia. And lest you be worried there may not be enough Australian content for you, it still comes with the two week free viewing period to help you decide.

The Daily Launches for iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.thedaily.com/

"The Daily has the depth and quality of a magazine, but is delivered daily like a newspaper and updated in real-time like the web."

Today is launch day for The Daily, the magazine type newspaper (if that makes sense) for the iPad. The press release regarding the launch has lots of info about launch, but the major points are:

  • Pricing is $0.99 USD per week, or $39.99 USD per year;
  • Billed directly through your iTunes account;
  • It will be a mix of text, photography, audio, video, information graphics, touch interactivity and real-time data and social feeds;
  • Up to 100 pages focused on news, sports, gossip and celebrity, opinion, arts and life, and apps and games. It will offer views from across the political spectrum. They will come from across cultures and generations, across America and the world.
  • Sudoku and crossword puzzles, localized weather reports, and a customizable sports package that captures news on the user's favorite teams. Subscribers will also be able to leave comments onDaily stories in either written or audio form -- as well as bookmark them in-app to read later;
  • Initially they will have offices in New York and Los Angeles.

You also get two weeks free and can subscribe via our affiliate link. Want to know more? Learn more about this news delivery system at The Daily site or at the video of the launch. What are your thoughts now that they have launched and we see what they have to offer?

Are We Ready for The Daily?

Posted by Michael Knutson in "Apple News" @ 10:30 PM

http://news.worldofapple.com/archiv...t=Google+Reader

"Both Apple and News Corporation have sent out invitations to members of the media inviting them to the launch of The Daily, a newspaper designed specifically for the iPad."

Are readers ready to pay for news on their iPads? At a rumored 99 cents per week, it'll be competing with some pretty established news apps. It will be interesting to see how The Daily will be tailored specifically for the iPad. My guess is that it'll be pretty spectacular ...

The Daily Priced at $0.99 USD Per Week

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/01/25/the-...cents-per-week/

"The Daily, News Corp's foray into the world of digital newspaper publishing, might debut in the next few weeks. Executive James Murdoch, Chief Executive of News Corp. in Europe and Asia, verified this tentative launch date during the DLD conference in Munich, Germany. He also confirmed the iPad-based digital paper will be available for 99-cents per week as previously rumored."

Depending on what the content looks like (I'm hoping they have some type of free trial), I may end up purchasing this as that isn't a bad price. It's only going to be available in the US initially, and Murdoch has hired over 100 journalist to work on this digital newspaper. This is due out in the next few weeks, and speculation is that iOS 4.3 will be available at the same time since the subscription model is supported with that version.
