Simple tool for OS X, and certainly easy to use with a variety of handy features if you need to watermark your documents. It's available now in the Mac App store for $9.99 USD.

Remarks for iPad, Take Notes And Work With PDFs

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 04:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/144274/rem...-at-its-finest/

"The latest iPad app from Readdle, a company famous for its excellent productivity apps for iOS, has perfected PDF annotation and note taking on a touchscreen device."

The difference between this one and PDFPen from Smile on my Mac appears to be that this one actually is a note taking program along with a PDF annotater. Oh, and its about four bucks cheaper at $5.99 USD [affiliate link]. I also think that PDFPen is a bit more polished and has a couple of advantages namely it syncs with the desktop version and has iCloud syncing. But if you just want a standalone PDF program and like to take notes on your iPad, this one would work just fine. If you have used either program, tell us your thoughts!

Add Signature to PDF With Lion

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.cultofmac.com/you-can-no...eenshots-how-to

"There's plenty of software programs on the Mac App Store that will allow you to add a signature to a PDF, but come Lion, you won't need any of them: Preview.app will do it by creating a perfect digital pen signature via FaceTime."

A step-by-step how to on how to add your signature to PDF files via Lion. Using the Preview app and your camera with FaceTme allows you to add your signature pretty easily. And the signature will be available for future documents once you get it done the first time. Handy!

Guy Kawasaki Will Give You A Free Copy of The Macintosh Way....Again

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Talk" @ 11:00 PM

http://www.maclife.com/article/news...y_free_facebook

"The Apple sphere's favorite Apple evangelist, Guy Kawaskai, is offering his book The Macintosh Way for free. All you have to do is head over to the Facebook fan page of his upcoming book, Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds and Actions, "Like" it, and then download the PDF."

Back in August 2010 he was doing the same thing, but now he is switching to Facebook and tying it to his new book to get the word out. So if you missed out on your free copy in August, you have another shot. And while you are at it you can find out about his new book.

Goodreader for iPad Update Includes Annotations and Highlighting

Posted by Joe Johaneman in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 07:30 AM

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/arti...ds_annotations/

"GoodReader for iPad is a robust PDF reader and file manager that also displays many other file formats of interest. Version 3.0, released on September 30, adds annotations, markup and highlighting capabilities."

I read most of my PDFs on Folio for iPad, but I might switch back to GoodReader now, at least for PDFs I'm using for research purposes. Annotation is exactly what I've been waiting for in Folio (it added highlighting in the last update). I'm not a fan of GoodReader's interface, but for now, it has Folio beat on features. What PDF reader, if any, do you use on the iPad?

Here is One Way to Get PDFs on Your iPad

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad)" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comm...etell+Appletell

"Let's say you found a great PDF on the web. It has exactly what you need in order to wow your boss. Or, maybe it has what you need in order to win that ongoing argument with your friend. Either way, you need to get your hands on that PDF outside the web, and you do not want to wait for the next time you and your intended target are near a computer."

Using Good Reader for iPad [affiliate link] (coincidentally on sale now for $0.99 USD), is one way to get those PDFs on your iPad for reading later, and it is pretty simple as these directions demonstrate.

Solid Comes to the Mac, at a Discount

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple Software (OS X)" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/150...l?lsrc=rss_news

"Solid Documents, makers of PDF and document tools for Windows, has released one of its most popular products for the Mac: Solid PDF to Word."

Solid converts PDF documents into Microsoft Word and Excel formats, but it can also convert them to Pages format, RTF and HTML. All the images, headers, footers, etc are preserved and if there are editable form fields, those are converted to text boxes. This requires Intel Mac running OS X 10.5 or later. The price is normally $75.95 USD for a single user license but the first 500 people to purchase are given a heft 25% discount, which drops the price to $59.95USD. They also have a free trial period, so if this is something that you might be interested, check it out here.
