Flip Steady for iPad, Does This Solve Your Case Problem?

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2012/04/...steady-for-ipad

"Still haven't found the perfect iPad case for you? Consider the FlipSteady, now being considered at Kickstarter for the iPad 2 and new iPad."

I use a combo method on my iPad. For the front I use the smart cover from Apple and for the back I use hard shell cover from Scoshe. But I am always on the lookout for something better, and this might just be it. But I don't think I need to hurry over to the their Kickstarter page since they appear to be within $600.00 USD of their goal and they have 55 days left. Clever case indeed.

Armor For Your iPhone...Seriously

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5901966/heavily-...0-caliber-round

"It might add almost five pounds to the weight of your phone, but this armored iPhone case with one-inch of thick steel plating on the back is promised to stop a .50 caliber round."

Ugly, but it does the job of protecting your iPhone from a .50 caliber round. At $650.00 I can't see too many sales of this, cheaper to just get a new iPhone!

TUAW Unveils Best iPad Case of 2011

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/12/29/dodo...for-ipad-cases/

"It's official! DODOcase, the San Francisco-based company that started the entire "iPad case that looks like a book" craze shortly after the release of the first iPad, was voted the best iPad case of 2011 by TUAW readers."

Ok so it might or might not be the best, but it is the best one according to the readers of TUAW. And it is a nice case, make no mistake about that. However, it really isn't my cup of tea when it comes to cases. I prefer more industrial design looking rather than a book looking type case. But to each his own, what are your thoughts?

Recalls for Mophie and Rocketfish Cases

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/12/01/moph...rheating-cases/

"A couple of recall notices went out earlier today for Mophie and Rocketfish battery cases."

So Mophie and Rocketfish have cases on the recall list, both with overheating problems. If you have one of the Mophie cases (determined by the serial numbers with the first 5 digits between TR113 and TR120) then go here to get the recall form, or call 877-308-4581.

If you have one of the Rocketfish cases, which have the model number of RF-KL12 for the iPhone 3G or 3GS, you can go here to see the recall site they have set up, or you can call Best Buy at 800.917.5737.

TI Projector for iPhone 4, Available at Brookstone

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.macworld.com/article/163...l#lsrc.rss_main

"Electronics giant Texas Instruments (TI) and specialty retailer Brookstone have announced the Pocket Projector for iPhone 4, a case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S that incorporates TI's Pico projector technology to offer on-the-go video projection."

Interesting concept case, that is in actuality a projector for you road warriors. You really need a dark room for it to be effective, but if you want to downsize your bulk, this looks like a pretty good option. You can preorder yours from Brookstone now.

For the Cowboy and His/Her iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/10/15/the-...-cowboy-in-you/

"What do you get for the cowboy who has everything? How about a huge brass iPhone belt buckle/holster?"

Saddle up! I kid, I Kid! Actually I think this is rather nifty, and if I wore belts like this I think I would spring for this buckle. If you want one, head on over to the Etsy Store and pick one up for a not so low $300.00 USD.

iTattoo Cases for iPhone 4

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 11:48 AM

http://gizmodo.com/5843185/itattoo-...ones-apple-logo

"The iTattoo cases from Cement Produce are really different. Instead of highlighting the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone, they merge the Apple icon into the design."

They run roughly 45 bucks or so, and you can get them via the Charles and Marie website. I really like these, especially the way they work in the Apple logo as part of the design. I am not a fan of the cases that hide the Apple logo so this is right up my alley.

Logitech Keyboard Case by ZAGG for iPad 2: Keyboard and Case in One

Posted by Shawn Rogers in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 07:00 AM

Product Category: iPad 2 Case/Keyboard
Manufacturer: Zagg for Logitech
Where to Buy: Amazon.com
Price: $99.99 USD
System Requirements: iPad 2
Specifications: 510mAh USB rechargeable battery, 246 mm/9.7 inches long, 191 mm/7.5 inches wide, 11 mm/.43 inches high, .345 kg/12.2 oz. in weight.

Pros:

  • Keyboard, stand, case in one;
  • Easy to use, effective design;
  • Sturdy aluminium shell for a long life.

Cons:

  • Keys may be too small for those with larger hands;
  • No protection for the back of your iPad;
  • Some questions about long term durability.

Summary:

The Logitech Keyboard Case by ZAGG for iPad 2 combines 3 popular iPad 2 accessories into one small profile product: a protective case, a stand, and a Bluetooth keyboard. It is ideal for those that are hoping to use their iPad 2 as a replacement to a laptop, as the small profile makes it easy to slip your iPad 2 and keyboard into a small carry on, and the Bluetooth keyboard makes writing emails or editing documents a snap. However, those with larger hands or who want full body protection for their iPad 2 will find this product lacking.

Snazzy Looking Aluminum Case for Your iPad 2

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 PM

http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/06/alumi...-air-lookalike/

"We've been hearing scary stories about the post-PC era ever since Steve Jobs and Apple first talked about this new age of computing at the iPad 2 unveiling. Mobile devices akin to iPad will obsolete our desktop computers (which will be like trucks), we are being told."

Now this, versus this, is something that I would spend money on. For $49.95 over at MIC, you can pick up this case that appears to make your iPad 2 into a notebook of sorts. I don't think notebooks per se will ever be obsolete, but this is one of the nicest couplings of keyboard and iPad that I have seen and I would definitely consider using this. What are your thoughts? Are notebooks going away? Should you get ahead of the crowd and get one of these now?

A Case For Your Apple TV? WaterField Designs Says Yes!

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Other Apple Hardware" @ 06:00 PM

http://www.macworld.com/article/160...l#lsrc.rss_main

"Just in time for summer road trip season, WaterField Designs has released the stylish Apple TV Case so you can bring your set-top box along with you. Remember last year when the whole family had to crowd around your iPad? Now you can stream your media to Grandma's 100-inch plasma HDTV using an Apple TV and AirPlay."

If you need a case for your Apple TV and all it's accessories, this certainly would be a great one to have. $45.00 USD is the price, but you get a lot of quality for it, as is usually the case with WaterField Designs. And the best part is the colors they use, always a bit off beat but very stylish. You can find out more about this and other cases at WaterField Designs.

My Favourite iPad Bag: the iPad Travel Express by Waterfield Designs

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Accessories" @ 07:00 AM

This is a review video of the iPad Travel Express, made by Waterfield Designs in the USA. This is a well-designed, sturdy bag that's perfect for carrying your iPad (with or without the Smart Cover), the Apple Bluetooth keyboard, the iPad sync cable and AC adaptor, along with a few other small items (wallet, phone, MP3 player, etc.). It's not a low-cost bag - you're definitely paying for the quality of the materials and the fact that it's made in the USA - but it's one of the best bags of its type that I've used and I highly recommend it. The DecalGirl skin shown in the video can be purchased here. [Affiliate]

Noreve's iPad 2 Leather Sleeve Reviewed

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Accessories" @ 08:00 AM

The Noreve iPad 2 Leather Sleeve is a simple product that does the job of protecting your iPad 2 in style - it retails for 79.99 Euro, which is about $118 USD depending on the currency rate. It' not a cheap case - it's a high-end, almost fashion-like product for a certain type of buyer. The leather is luxurious and the case screams quality. Check out the video for the full review.

Waterfield Design's iPad 2 Suede Jacket Reviewed

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Accessories" @ 09:00 AM

To watch in full screen 1080p, please click on the video title and go over to YouTube.

This is my review of the Waterfield Design iPad 2 Suede Jacket. It's a simple product that works exceptionally well - if you're looking for a simple sleeve for your iPad 2, this is an affordable, effective product. The Ultrasuede is extremely soft and will protect your iPad from scratches and scuffs - but of course won't protect it from anything more than that. The pouch on the back is handy for carrying a few iPad accessories, and with prices starting at $19, it's an affordable option. If you're looking for a simple, lightweight way to protect your iPad v1 or iPad v2 - with or without a Smart Cover - I highly recommend the iPad 2 Suede Jacket.

It's Cool, Retro Cool

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.cultofmac.com/the-v-luxe...retro-fantastic

"You will not buy this. You will not think it's practical. You will not think it's a good return on investment. But you will still lust and droll over Paula Anne Patterson's gorgeous, retrotastic new Kickstarter project."

Well, apparently enough thought it cool enough to fund since the project is now fully funded at over $5,000.00 USD [link]. I have to admit, if I had the space for it I could find a spot for this beauty.

Want a Physical Keyboard For Your iPhone 4? Here You Go...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 01:00 AM

http://www.nuubrand.com/minikey.html

"The NUU MiniKey provides greater speed, better accuracy, and convenient function keys for heavy iPhone typists. This keyboard has great appeal for those who prefer tactile feedback while they type, and is particularly useful for anyone thinking of switching from BlackBerry to iPhone."

Very interesting, and especially helpful for those wanting to switch from Blackberry or any number of Android phones that have the physical keyboard. The case offers some protection but also appears to stay pretty thin despite having that slide out keyboard. I do like that you get the whole screen to use, the backlighting and that it has a sleep mode that follows along with the iPhone, shifting on seamlessly when it senses you need to type. You can find out more about the case at NUU, or if you are convinced you need one, head over to the affiliate store and purchase one there for $79.99 USD.

"Oh They've Encased Him in Carbonite, He Should Be Well Protected..."

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/04/25/no-c...s-in-carbonite/

"Did you ever wonder happens when the reality distortion field meets Star Wars?"

These are rather interesting conversation starters, and quite the gimmick. I suppose Apple will work to shut them down so you might want to hurry if you plan on getting one. They have them in art prints or you can get covers for your MacBook, iPad or iPhone here at Society6.

I'm Thinking This is Pretty Good iPad Protection...

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.9to5mac.com/60314/new-ca...l-on-your-ipad/

"An 8lb. bowling ball dropped 3 feet onto this iPad 1. That is concrete below."

They aren't out yet, but these cases really seem to do the job. You can go here to pre-order one, available in black or yellow, and have it shipped out on May 2nd. The cases sell for $59.95, fit original iPad and iPad 2 and are water resistant. If you order one now, they won't charge your card until it actually ships.

I Think I Like This iPhone 4 Case

Posted by Jeff Campbell in "Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.appletell.com/apple/comm...4-cover-review/

"I like that some companies are willing to take a different approach to gadget protection. Silicone and plastic models have their place, sure, but they're hard to get excited about anymore. That's not the situation with RokForm's Rokbed Aluminum iPhone 4 cover. This is certainly not for everyone, but I have a feeling it'll find its audience."

I think I might be part of that audience as I really like the looks of this case. Granted, it is spendy at $79.00 USD for the aluminum version (or $149.00 USD for the magnesium version), but the industrial design really looks good. It also comes in a variety of covers, more info at the Rokbed site.
